The M.S. in LIS requires 40 hours of coursework. There are two courses required of all M.S. students: |

Other Endorsement Requirements
Must pass the Illinois Library Information Specialist Content Area test. Information is available at http://www.icts.nesinc.com.
In order to work in a school library including grades 5-8 (on a Type 03 certificate) or grades 6-8 (on a Type 09 or Type 10 certificate), teachers must hold the Middle Grades Endorsement, which is 6 hours of education courses. At the University of Illinois, these courses fulfill the Middle Grades endorsement requirement:
- CI 410: Middle School Instruction: Theory and Practice
- 2 credit hours
- EPS 427: Philosophy of Middle School Education - 2
credit hours
- EPSY 430: Early Adolescent Development - 2 credit hours
These courses may be taken on-campus at Illinois or through the new Middle Grades Endorsement Online program offered by the College of Education.
Students may also satisfy the middle grades endorsement through coursework taken at another university. See the ISBE website for pre-approved courses
available at other Illinois and out-of-state universities.
To work in library media centers at these grade levels, you need these certificates plus endorsements:
